Intraoral Cameras
An Intraoral camera (IOC) is a small video camera that captures large images within the mouth and shows them on a computer monitor. These images can be viewed by both the dentist and the patient.
These cameras were introduced in the 90's and have become extremely popular since that time. Today, they are widely used by dentists as they are helpful in finding out the cause of dental conditions, like tooth decay and cracked teeth. They are also used to build patients' trust through visual communication. While other digital cameras are useful, IOCs are best used chair-side to show the patient a clear picture of the inside of their mouth, allowing the dentist to consult them on various treatment options, and save the images directly to a patient’s file.
